Antique osteria in San Lazzaro di Savena

According to some historical sources, "Casa dell'Oca" dates back to the 15th century and it seems that the building was owned by the Masina family (or Della Masina), which had already made it an inn for those passing through.

Moreover, according to the testimonies of the elders of Idice, a hamlet of the municipality of San Lazzaro di Savena, the place's name originates from the weather vane shaped like a goose placed on one of the chimneys. In reality, the birth of the osteria dates back to long before the installation of the wind vane, perhaps at the time of the building's construction, called "Casa granda al'Occha".

In 2004, owners Valeria and Carla wanted to return the place to its historical function of "a refreshment for travellers on the consular road". They therefore founded Antica Osteria dell'Oca.

Renowned historical osteria

Antica Osteria dell'Oca, located in San Lazzaro di Savena, has been awarded the 2012 Matterello D'oro prize, for the 26th edition of the race.

It is a competition where members of all ages challenge each other with their rolling pins to knead and roll out dough in the most homogeneous and largest way possible in the shortest time. Every year, the dough prepared during the competition is donated to the homeless of Mensa dell'Antoniano.

The initiative aims to contribute to the preservation and enhancement of fresh pasta, one of the products at the base of Emilia-Romagna's gastronomic tradition.

The annual award is promoted by "Cenacolo di tradizioni gastronomiche bolognesi", presided by Cavalier Ivo Galetti and Antoniano.
